WAGE RATE: $37.071 – $38.157

Reporting to the Manager, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) works collaboratively in an inter-disciplinary team to provide patient care within their professional scope of practice while working in the Emergency department.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ontario College of Nurses registration
  • Current certification in or willingness to obtain:
    • BCLS
  • Two (2) years recent acute care nursing experience
  • Current understanding of the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scales (CTAS)
  • Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
  • CCU 1 or willingness to obtain in six (6) months
  • Code White (CPI certification) or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to work at full scope of practice as defined by the Emergency Program, ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Demonstrated Competence in the performance of the following skills: ECG, arrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy (including maintenance, IV starts and medication administration), care and maintenance of CVADs, splinting, oral, IM, sc medication administration, wound care, urinary catheterization, suture/staple removal, measuring for crutches, application of orthopedic immobilization devices
  • Experience with POCT, CBGM, urine testing and urine pregnancy testing, blood collection and lab specimen processing for transport
  • Power chart and order entry
  • Excellent organizational and patient assessment skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other healthcare professionals
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
