We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-orientated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Nithsdale Vets on a full-time fixed-term basis.

We are a two-site small animal practice based in Thornhill and Dumfries, both equipped to a high standard to support excellent clinical care. With a wide and varied caseload, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills across a broad spectrum of medical and surgical cases.

Our practices benefit from modern facilities and equipment, enabling us to provide a high standard of patient care while supporting the ongoing development of our clinical teams.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high-quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences.

You’ll work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team, taking responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first opinion cases, contributing to clinical standards, and supporting the ongoing development of patient care within the practice.

Working Pattern

  • Full-Time working 40 hours per week
  • Working on a rota basis Monday to Friday with shifts between 8am-7pm
  • 1 weeknight on call and 1 in every 4 weekend on calls
  • Saturday on-call duties from 9:00am to 2:00pm

General Responsibilities Include:

  • Deliver high standards of patient and inpatient nursing care
  • Monitor anaesthesia and assist with surgical procedures
  • Run nurse clinics and provide preventative healthcare advice
  • Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation
  • Support veterinary surgeons with diagnostics and laboratory procedures
  • Communicate effectively with clients and support the wider practice team

  • Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
  • Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively
  • A proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
