Are you wanting to settle into a practice where you can build relationships with both your clients and your team? Are you comfortable with a wide range of nursing tasks from consulting to anaesthetic monitoring? Do you want to work in an environment where your skills are valued?
Join our thriving Burscough Vets for Pets practice, offering a competitive salary and a supportive team environment just 40 minutes from Liverpool and Preston! Meet our team by clicking here!
Opened in 2016 on the border of Ormskirk, we are a close-knit team of four Vets, a Practice Manager, RVNs, SVNs, VCAs and admin team, and we are proud of our low staff turnover. Our large nurse ratio means we utilise our nurses to their full potential; they run a range of chargeable clinics and perform a variety of schedule 3 procedures.
We are working to create a great work/life balance for our team and constantly strive to create a better environment in practice, and encourage everyone to be honest when we don’t get it right. We don’t want anyone taking problems home with them and are open to ideas on how we can improve both in a non-clinical and clinical setting.
Located within half an hour of Liverpool and Preston, our practice offers a convenient location for those wanting to enjoy the amenities of these vibrant cities while working in a supportive and community-focused environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

As we are a small team, we are looking for someone who wants to work at building relationships within our team (we understand not everyone wants to be best mates with their colleagues, but being comfortable in your work environment and with the people you will be seeing on a daily basis is important to us).
Our nurses do some schedule 3 procedures but we would love for them to do more. Currently we run a range of chargeable nurse clinics so our clients understand the value in our nursing team. You will be comfortable running these nurse clinics in addition to monitoring anaesthetics, taking x-rays, in-patient care and some schedule 3 procedures.
You will have a positive attitude to work and a methodical approach to the running of your day - you will be able to manage your time and priorities to ensure you get the work done. We don’t want someone who will work themselves into the ground, because if you crack, no one is a winner. Instead we want someone who loves being a nurse and understands with that job role comes a lot of work, but also realises that there is more to life than a job.
You will want to develop trusting relationships with our clients to help guide them in understanding the right decisions to make when treating and caring for their pet. We want someone to maintain the bonds that we have already developed with our clients, whether that’s discussing their dog’s vaccination or their child’s performance at school! We believe that bond is crucial.
