Every role at CQC contributes to our mission. If you’re looking for a new role in Operations that gives a true sense of meaning and purpose, then you’ve found it!
As a Registration Inspector, you’ll help make sure only providers who meet the required standards can deliver health and social care services, helping to keep people safe and well cared for.
Picture this
You’ll play an important role in assessing whether organisations and individuals are ready to provide regulated health and social care services. Your work will directly support safe, high-quality care for people across the region.
As a Registration Inspector in Operations, you might get the chance to:
- Lead the assessment of a complex registration application for a large provider, reviewing evidence from multiple sources to determine whether services meet regulatory requirements.
- Work with specialist colleagues to support decisions that protect people using services.
The role
You’ll be key in helping us deliver our work. In this role, you’ll:
- Assess registration applications: Review applications from providers and managers, analyse evidence, and make recommendations on registration decisions, variations, and related regulatory actions.
- Manage information and records: Maintain accurate records, update systems, and ensure clear audit trails that support decisions and meet CQC requirements.
- Work with partners and colleagues: Collaborate with inspection teams, legal advisers, specialists, and external stakeholders to share information, identify risks, and support informed decision-making.
Show us
We will be looking for specific skills, knowledge and experience in your application form:
- Experience working in a health and/or social care setting where you have used professional judgement to make decisions that affect service quality, safety, or compliance.
- Experience analysing information from different sources, assessing evidence, and using this to make well-reasoned decisions in a risk-based environment.
- Experience managing a busy workload, meeting deadlines or performance targets, and working with a range of stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
- Experience of working with autistic people and people with a learning disability.
Join us and help CQC shape the future of health and care.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Equity for all
We know job descriptions can feel intimidating. Research shows they can cause some people to doubt whether they’re a good fit. This happens more often to people from underrepresented groups (e.g. ethnic minority backgrounds). If this role interests you, we encourage you to apply. Your unique perspective, skills, and experience could be exactly what we need.
We want every candidate to feel supported and able to do their best. If you need adjustments to our process, we’ll work with you to remove any barriers. Visit our accessibility page for more on this. If you’d like to chat, please contact recruitment@cqc.org.uk. Please note, if you have previously informed us of adjustments you need for interview or within your role these are not carried over and must be discussed for each individual application you make.
We promote a workplace where fairness, respect and inclusion are a priority. Diverse teams make our work better, help us deliver our mission and make our culture stronger. See our ED&I page for more about this.

A Note on AI
AI tools can be great for research and refining ideas, but we want to learn about you. If you use AI or Chatbots to help you with your application, keep these points in mind:
- AI can support research, structuring and refining your writing, but your application must reflect your real skills and experience.
- Spell-checking and condensing word counts are great ways to use AI effectively.
- Do not copy and paste AI generated answers. These will not help you stand out; remember we want to hear about your skills and experience.
- Providing false and insincere examples goes against our core values of honesty and integrity and may lead to your application being withdrawn or termination of your employment.
