About the Team & Role

We are seeking a motivated, adaptable and customer-focused Registration Officer to join our busy team at Gloucestershire Registration Service (GRS). GRS welcomes and supports a diverse team within Gloucestershire. We have 20 Registration Officers, in a department of almost 50 staff, including managers.

Registration appointments are carried out face-to-face, so we work in locations across the county and have a diverse, multi-cultural customer base. We frequently travel across the county of Gloucestershire, sometimes at very short notice.

This is an office-based role without hybrid working because Registration Officers interact with the public every day. Your role will involve registering births, deaths, still-births, marriages and civil partnerships. You will work in a busy environment where effective organisation and prioritisation are important and will need to confidently use a variety of computer programs. At times you will officiate at ceremonies including marriage, civil partnership and citizenship. You will support people during some of the most important moments of their lives. You will play a key role in recording life events and preserving important historical records.

About You

You have exceptional interpersonal skills and the enthusiasm and empathy to work with a diverse range of customers. You communicate clearly and professionally, adapt well to changing situations and remain effective when managing changing priorities. You possess excellent organisational skills to enable you to prioritise workloads and ensure service levels are met. You are able to work flexibly, including some weekends and public holidays. You are comfortable using ICT systems and Microsoft Office 365, preferably including SharePoint, and willing to learn new systems. You have excellent attention to details and accuracy when completing both electronic and paper-based records. Due to the regular requirement to attend multiple locations across Gloucestershire, sometimes at short notice, a driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
