I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Most local authorities will say that they are undertaking transformation in one shape or form. In Exeter we not only believe we are a leading place based on economic growth, but also due to the work we do with our partners and the local authorities that surround us.
Strategic partnerships are at the forefront of what we do. We have ambitious plans to make Exeter both an analytical city and the global leading location for applied environmental science.
Our population growth is the fastest in the country and our economic growth has reached transformational levels.
As an organisation you’ll find that we are outward facing – for us a lot of the work we do is based around place. Internally, we are changing our organisation to be more commercially focussed as changes in local government finances abound.
