The successful candidate will sit at the heart of the policy debate, developing positions on some of the most important issues facing the sector, including consumer policy, corporate governance, strategic planning and the future regulatory framework.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

- Develop positions on significant issues facing the sector.
- Engage with senior stakeholders across government, regulators, think tanks, and industry.
- Influence policy and bring different perspectives together.
- Shape the direction of regulation over the coming years.
This is not a traditional regulatory role. It offers the opportunity to take complex policy and regulatory issues, develop clear and evidence-based positions, and have a genuine influence on how the sector evolves. Water sector experience is not essential.
