About Us
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is Britain's national regulator for workplace health and safety. We are dedicated to protecting people and places, helping everyone to lead safer and healthier lives at work.
Our Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD) regulates biocides, pesticides, detergents and chemicals covered by REACH, as well as compliance with the Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation.
We are currently seeking five Regulatory Scientists to join CRD on a permanent basis across a variety of scientific disciplines.

The Role
Following comprehensive training, you will apply your scientific expertise to support the regulation of chemicals and help protect human health and the environment.
You will undertake a structured training programme lasting approximately 18-36 months, providing in-depth knowledge of chemical regulation and regulatory science.
Working primarily across the Biocides and Pesticides regimes, you will:
- Analyse and interpret scientific data against relevant regulations, guidance and models
- Support evidence-based regulatory decision making
- Provide scientific and regulatory advice to colleagues, applicants, stakeholders and members of the public
- Prepare technical assessments to internal quality standards
- Present findings and recommendations to expert groups and Government departments
- Work flexibly across regulatory teams to support business priorities
Please note that during the training period, you may be required to attend the office more frequently, including travel to other HSE sites and occasional overnight stays.
About You
To be considered, you must hold a degree (minimum 2:2) or Level 7/8 qualification in a relevant scientific discipline, including:
