As part of our London team, we are looking for a:
Reinsurance Underwriter
This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse international reinsurance portfolio, combining technical underwriting and portfolio management with regular interaction with brokers and clients across international markets. The position will primarily focus on treaty reinsurance business and will also include responsibility for a limited portfolio of Marine treaty contracts, providing additional exposure to this line of business within the broader portfolio.
Your Mission
Your main responsibility will be to contribute to the profitable and sustainable development of Mapfre Re's international reinsurance portfolio, combining sound technical underwriting with effective portfolio management and strong broker and client relationships. You will assess reinsurance opportunities, analyse exposures and make informed underwriting decisions, while actively contributing to the management and development of the portfolio. As part of the role, you will also manage a limited portfolio of Marine treaty business alongside your broader underwriting responsibilities.

What Will You Do?
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Analyse reinsurance submissions and assess exposures from a technical underwriting perspective.
- Evaluate risks and determine appropriate pricing, capacity, terms and conditions.
- Analyse treaty structures and contract wordings, negotiating terms and conditions with brokers and cedants.
- Underwrite and manage the assigned reinsurance portfolio in line with the overall underwriting strategy.
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify potential actions to maintain portfolio quality and profitability.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of underwriting and portfolio strategies.
- Manage a limited portfolio of Marine treaty reinsurance contracts as part of the broader portfolio.
- Maintain a strong understanding of relevant developments and trends across the reinsurance market.
Broker & Client Management and Business Development
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with brokers and clients across international markets.
- Work closely with brokers and cedants throughout the underwriting and renewal process.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities in line with Mapfre Re's underwriting strategy.
- Participate in negotiations with brokers and cedants, bringing together technical underwriting considerations and commercial objectives.
- Contribute to the development of the portfolio and strengthen Mapfre Re's relationships across the international reinsurance market.

What Are We Looking For?
- A minimum of 5 years' professional experience in reinsurance, ideally in underwriting or reinsurance broking.
- Good understanding of treaty reinsurance structures, including proportional and/or excess-of-loss business.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess reinsurance opportunities from a technical perspective.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with brokers and clients.
- Ability to work effectively in an international environment and collaborate closely with colleagues across Mapfre Re.
- Knowledge of or previous exposure to Marine reinsurance would be an advantage given the Marine component of the portfolio.
