Release Manager - Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Contract Role

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Length: Till the end of 2026

Location: London or Glasgow - 3x days onsite

Client: Investment Banking

Day Rate: £450 inside IR35 via Rockford Payroll

Daily Rate Breakdown

  • Traditional Daily Rate: £450
  • Agreed Contract Rate (ACR): £346.95
  • Equivalent Annual Salary: £90,206 + £10,887 holiday pay
  • Payroll provider: Rockford Payroll Info for Contingent Workers - Rockford Pay

Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join Deloitte Operations for an engagement with one of our clients.

This contract position supports the banks programme, responsible for the end-to-end quality assurance, testing, and production release of Google Cloud Platform components within a hybrid cloud environment. The Release Manager will be technically hands-on, quality-focused, and accountable for managing the full release lifecycle of GCP components, ensuring high-quality, timely deployments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate all aspects of the release lifecycle for Google Cloud initiatives, ensuring timely and high-quality deployments.
  • Manage and communicate the release schedule across multiple teams and projects.
  • Ensure all release artefacts, documentation, and approvals are in place prior to deployment.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, manage dependencies, and resolve issues impacting release scope, schedule, or quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement of release processes, tools, and automation within a Google Cloud environment.
  • Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases (manual and automated) for GCP services and features.
  • Contribute to automated test suites and frameworks using cloud-native testing tools.
  • Perform functional, integration, performance, and security testing tailored for cloud environments.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects, collaborating with development teams for timely resolution.
  • Operate and maintain AWS-based release tooling, managing artefact promotion and cross-cloud deployment flows.
  • Manage Kubernetes deployments including Helm, kubectl, rolling deployments, and cluster troubleshooting.
  • Provide clear release status reporting to engineering leads and programme management.
  • Maintain runbooks, deployment checklists, and post-release documentation.

  • Proven experience in release management and software testing within cloud-native environments.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps principles, and modern testing methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with GCP services including GKE, Cloud Build, and Artifact Registry.
  • Strong Kubernetes proficiency covering Helm, kubectl, rolling deployments, and cluster troubleshooting.
  • Experience with AWS pipeline tooling, cross-account IAM, and artefact management.
  • Structured release management experience aligned with ITIL change governance.
  • Proven QA and testing strategy background for cloud-native applications.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash for test automation and tooling.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and project coordination skills.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • GCP certification (Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer or Architect).
  • Experience with Terraform, Argo CD, and Prometheus/Grafana for observability.

Location

Preferred: Glasgow, with flexibility for London-based candidates.
