Job Details

  • An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the Relief Care Assistant Team within Adult Services Resources, HSCP Integrated Complex and Critical Services. This service supports adults, some with profound and complex needs, mental health issues and autistic spectrum disorders as well as adults who have offending histories, both to live as independently as possible within their own homes and to help with inclusive integration and participation in their local communities.

  • You will support Service Users living at home with all aspects of their housing support and chosen lifestyle. This will include carrying out personal care, supporting service users at mealtimes, support with medication, moving and handling and be responsible for record keeping and finances. (This is not an exhaustive list).

  • This role is focused on individuals with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour, providing person-centred care, assisting with daily living activities and promoting independence, while managing behaviours that challenge, through positive and proactive strategies. You will implement and monitor positive behaviour support plans, using person-centred approach to manage behaviours that challenge. The role may include working within a multi-disciplinary team and may require specific skills in behaviour management and understanding learning disabilities, including but not limited to; CALM core theory, Escape, CALM physical intervention and CPI training.

  • You will adopt a person-centred approach in all aspects of service delivery and accompany Service Users in a wide range of personal interest activities and appointments while fully respecting their preferred lifestyle choices and while promoting their independence.

  • As a casual worker, you will be required to cover for permanent staff.

  • Lone Working may be a requirement for this post, which will mean you will work independently, taking responsibility for your shift and making decisions where required to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery.

  • The shifts that you will be required to cover will include dayshifts, backshifts, weekends, sleepovers and/or nightshifts.

  • Regular availability and responding at short notice is an expectation of this role, to continually meet the needs of the Service Users we support.

  • A robust Induction Programme is in place.

  • Regular supervision with your line manager, attendance at team meetings and mandatory training is an expectation of the role.

The Person

  • You will be caring, compassionate and want to make a difference to the lives of the people that you support.

  • You will have experience of providing care, formally or informally.

  • You will be able to work independently, as well as part of a wider team.

  • You will have basic IT Skills.

  • You will have the ability to travel throughout Fife.

  • You will have the ability to undertake physical tasks e.g. being able to comfortably kneel on beds and floors and able to rise without difficulty and to participate in CALM or CPI techniques.

  • You will have experience/awareness of Health and Social Care Standards and Fife Council and Scottish Social Services Council Codes of Practice.

  • You will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council within your first six months in post. To ensure you are registered within 6 months you will need to apply within 3 months of starting the role.

  • You will have or be willing to achieve in the first period of registration, the Social Services and Healthcare SCQF6 SVQ2 or equivalent to meet Scottish Social Services Council registration.

  • Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain PVG scheme membership for working with adults through Disclosure Scotland.

  • You are required to register with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of taking up employment in this role and to complete the required Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) over the first registration period.

  • A driving licence is preferable as you will be required to travel across Fife but is not necessary.
