Job Role: Relief Cleaning Operative

Working Hours: Zero Hours
Pay: £14.80 per hour
Location: The Elephant, Elephant & Castle, London

Join the team helping to maintain one of London's newest and most exciting destinations.

Anchor Group Services is recruiting Cleaning Operatives for The Elephant, a landmark mixed-use development at the heart of Elephant & Castle. Bringing together retail, residential and public spaces, The Elephant is set to become a vibrant destination where residents, visitors, retailers and communities come together.

This is a unique opportunity to join a flagship London mobilisation from day one, helping to establish standards, culture and service excellence across a brand-new development. As a Relief Cleaning Operative, you will play a key role in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment whilst delivering exceptional customer service to everyone who visits, lives or works at The Elephant.

About the Role

As a Relief Cleaning Operative, you'll play a key role in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation across this exciting new destination. Working across retail, residential and public spaces, you'll carry out routine and reactive cleaning duties, support waste management activities, and help create a clean, safe and welcoming environment for everyone who visits, lives or works at The Elephant.

In this role, you will be required to support the cleaning team by being flexible and reliable to cover shifts as required, including working a variety of shifts and hours to meet operational needs.

Duties Include:

  • Provide flexible cover during periods of holiday, sickness and absence, ensuring service standards are maintained at all times.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness across residential, retail, and public areas.
  • Carry out routine, deep cleaning tasks, responding promptly to spillages, hazards, and cleanliness issues to ensure a safe environment for all site users.
  • Support waste management and recycling initiatives, including the collection and disposal of waste in line with site procedures.
  • Operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively, ensuring all equipment and cleaning materials are maintained in a clean and organised condition.
  • Complete cleaning schedules, inspections, and required documentation, reporting defects, maintenance issues, and health & safety concerns as necessary.
  • Support the preparation and presentation of the development during events, peak periods, and other operational activities.
  • Provide a professional and customer friendly service to residents, visitors, retailers, and colleagues, helping to create a welcoming environment.
  • Work collaboratively with Security, Maintenance, and Management teams while complying with Health & Safety, COSHH, and all site procedures.

Requirements

  • Previous cleaning experience within commercial, residential, retail or facilities environments.
  • Flexible to provide shift cover as and when required.
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual and professional approach to work.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and duties.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced customer-facing environment.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety responsibilities within the workplace.
