About the Role

Do you enjoy helping others and take pride in preparing welcoming dining environments and quality meals? If so, a career with Central Bedfordshire Council's Care and Support Services could be the perfect opportunity for you.

In our Older People's Services, food is about so much more than nutrition. A well-prepared meal, a welcoming dining room, and a friendly face can brighten someone's day, support their health and wellbeing, and help them maintain their dignity and independence. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play an important part in creating these positive experiences for our residents.

Every day brings something different. The people we support have led rich and varied lives, each with their own story, personality, and individual needs. By supporting mealtimes, you'll help create moments of comfort, connection and enjoyment that truly make a difference.

Working alongside our experienced catering team, you will assist the Cook in charge with a range of kitchen and dining room duties, including:

  • Supporting the preparation of nutritious meals and refreshments.
  • Keeping kitchen and food preparation areas clean, safe and organised.
  • Washing and cleaning kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Preparing dining areas to create a welcoming environment for residents.
  • Assisting with serving meals and refreshments.
  • Clearing and tidying dining areas after service.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, including wiping tables, presenting dining areas attractively, and cleaning floor areas.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
