The service operates five distinctive venues: Experience Barnsley, Cooper Gallery, Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens, Elsecar Heritage Centre, and Worsbrough Mill Museum and Country Park, alongside a nationally accredited Archives and Local Studies Service. Together, these sites provide a diverse programme of exhibitions, learning opportunities, community engagement activities and events that connect people with Barnsley’s social, industrial and artistic heritage.
We are seeking to recruit Relief Learning Assistants to work in our award-winning Learning Team to support the delivery of our offer to schools, families and communities and increase engagement with our museums and collections and diversify our audiences.
If you feel that you have the skills and experience to take on this challenge and support the delivery of inspiring learning programmes for all, raising educational attainment and aspiration across the borough then we’d love to hear from you!

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
