About the Role
Looking for flexible work that fits around your lifestyle? As a Relief Lifeline Operator, you'll have the freedom to choose available shifts that work for you while playing an important role in supporting vulnerable residents across Somerset.
The Lifeline Service helps elderly and disabled residents remain safe, independent and confident in their own homes by providing a 24-hour emergency response service. You'll be a calm and reassuring point of contact for people who need urgent support, assessing situations, coordinating the appropriate response and helping callers feel supported during difficult moments. Working as part of a dedicated team, you'll make a real difference every time you log on for a shift.
How You'll Make a Difference
- Respond to emergency calls and take swift action to help residents stay safe and supported.
- Assess situations accurately and coordinate the most appropriate response, including contacting emergency services when needed.
- Provide calm reassurance and emotional support to people who may be distressed, worried or vulnerable.
- Handle out-of-hours service calls and help ensure important council services continue to support residents around the clock.
- Maintain accurate records and share information effectively so that residents receive safe, consistent and high-quality support.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
