Role: Relief Process Machine Operator
Salary: £29,829.80
Working Hours: Monday - Friday 6am - 2pm and 2pm - 10pm, alternate weeks
Location: Carlisle, 54 Church Street, Cumbria, CA2 5TG

What will this role achieve?
Your main role is to support the team with packing and feeding biscuits. When needed, you will step in to cover the duties of a Process Machine Operator. This includes setting up machinery, keeping the area safe and clean, and working closely with your team.
The role needs someone with a positive attitude who takes pride in doing a good job and works well in a busy team. Must want to progress within your team as you will be trained to step into the permanent role when needed. Will be required to move lines across the factory as and when required.
What will be your key deliverables?
- Manually pack products within specifications (includes bending, lifting, stretching)
- Visually check for foreign matter/hazards
- Ensure quality of biscuits being packed is within product specifications
- Ensure adherence to all quality and safety standards
- Work to a high standard, enabling plants to achieve planned output
- Report any problems to ATM/Supervisor
- Ensure housekeeping and hygiene standards are maintained
- Support the Supervisors in the introduction and support of any improvement initiatives
- Provide a coordinated link with all production processes on the line

Process Machine Operator responsibilities
- Understanding of biscuit specifications
- Operating a variety of machinery across different plants
- Communicate with the Packing Supervisors and Managers to ensure that the line is running to the correct standard
- Report any problems on SAP and informing the ATM and Team Manager
- Deliver the production plan effectively with quality being the priority
- Lead Health and Safety standards within the area
- Personal responsibility for their safety
- Ensure that all accidents and near misses are reported within the correct timescales
- You’ll help make sure quality standards are met along with the rules for cleanliness and safety
- Take part in tiered meetings and have an active role in the boards as part of Supply Chain Excellence
- Develop and maintain good communications and working relationships between manufacturing and planning
- Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques
- You’ll be expected to show and encourage positive behaviour at work, helping to build a strong and supportive team culture
Bring your experience
Essential
- Basic numerical and literacy knowledge
- Manual dexterity
- Basic communication skills
- Basic problem recognition
- Excellent team working skills
- Be able to multi-task and have the drive and tenacity to work under your own initiative
- Positive attitude and willingness to drive change within the operational environment
Desirable
- Previous experience is desirable but not essential; training will be provided.
- Knowledge of manufacturing environment and of HACCP and safe systems of work
- Understand zonal Key Performance Indicators (production targets, waste levels, and line performance)
What does the recruitment process consist of?
Assessments – Swift Comprehensive Aptitude assessment along with a Workplace English assessment. These should take around 45–60 minutes to complete.
Interview – 45-60 minute competency-based interview based on our company values and your experience.
