- Hours per week: Causal (as and when required)

About The Role
As a Relief Usher within Haringey’s Coroner Service, you will play a vital role in supporting the smooth and professional delivery of inquests and Pre-Inquest Review Hearings. You will be responsible for preparing courtrooms, greeting and directing attendees, administering oaths under the Coroner’s direction, operating court recording systems and virtual hearing technology, and providing support during jury inquests. This is a varied and interesting position requiring excellent organisation, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while handling sensitive situations.

About The Team
The Coroner Service sits within Haringey’s Legal and Governance Directorate and works closely with HM Coroner, Assistant Coroners, Coroners Officers, and the Inquest Team to support the investigation of deaths and the delivery of court proceedings. The team is committed to providing a professional, compassionate, and efficient service to bereaved families, witnesses, legal representatives, medical professionals, and members of the public. Working collaboratively, the team ensures that hearings are conducted with dignity, respect, and fairness at all times.
About You
You will be a confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact sensitively and professionally with bereaved families and members of the public. Highly organised and attentive to detail, you will be comfortable managing competing priorities in a busy environment while maintaining a high standard of customer service. You will also be confident using IT systems, troubleshooting technical issues, and speaking in a formal court setting. Above all, you will be discreet, adaptable, and committed to delivering a professional service in a role that makes a meaningful difference to the local community.
