Religious Education SEND Tutor – Wokingham
Location: Wokingham, Berkshire
Subject: Religious Education (RE)

Working Arrangement: In-person
Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive, and experienced Religious Education SEND Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to a secondary-aged young person in Wokingham.
The successful tutor will have strong Religious Education subject knowledge and experience supporting learners with SEND. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace, resources, and explanations to meet individual needs, while helping the learner build confidence and make positive academic progress.
Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement, or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable. The ability to create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment will be essential.
This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
The Role May Involve
- Providing personalised one-to-one RE tuition to a secondary-aged learner.
- Supporting a young person with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
- Supporting the secondary RE curriculum and GCSE preparation where appropriate.
- Covering relevant areas of Religious Education, including religious beliefs, practices, ethics, and philosophical issues.
- Adapting lessons, resources, and teaching approaches to meet individual needs.
- Breaking complex topics and concepts into manageable and accessible steps.
- Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted support.
- Supporting GCSE revision, exam preparation, and exam technique.
- Developing confidence in written responses, analysis, and evaluation.
- Supporting a learner who may experience anxiety, school avoidance, or disengagement.
- Creating a calm, structured, and positive learning environment.
- Using engaging activities and the learner’s interests to encourage participation.
- Supporting learners who may display challenging behaviour where appropriate.
- Developing independence, resilience, and positive attitudes towards learning.
- Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
- Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.
- Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner’s support.
- Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential Requirements
- Strong Religious Education subject knowledge at secondary/GCSE level.
- Experience teaching or tutoring RE.
- Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people with SEND.
- Experience providing one-to-one support is desirable.
- Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual SEND needs.
- Experience supporting learners who may have barriers to mainstream education.
- SEMH experience would be highly desirable.
- A patient, calm, flexible, and empathetic approach.
- Ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with young people.
- Experience supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious, or disengaged from education.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain clear professional boundaries.
- Reliable and consistent approach to work.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
- The right to work in the UK.
