About The Role

Visa is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic team, specifically within our acquired entity, Currency Cloud. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining a robust API that has processed over 50 billion USD in cross-border transactions for more than 5 million end users. Your contributions will directly impact the scalability, reliability, and security of our payment platform, which operates 24/7 to serve clients globally. As a senior member of the engineering team, you will take ownership of your services, lead architectural discussions, and mentor junior engineers, all while working within a modern, cloud-native microservices environment on AWS. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on high-impact projects that drive innovation in the cross-border payments industry, leveraging the latest technologies and best practices to meet the demands of an ever-growing global user base.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess at least 5+ years of experience in Java backend development, with a strong background in building scalable, fault-tolerant applications. Proficiency in modern Java (version 8+), Spring Boot, and object-oriented programming is essential. Candidates should have hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures, particularly on AWS, and be familiar with containerization tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and EKS. Expertise in messaging systems like Kafka, as well as experience with large SQL databases, is required. Knowledge of API standards such as OpenAPI (Swagger), and testing methodologies including TDD, BDD, and Contract Testing, is highly desirable. Strong communication skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving are critical. Experience working in Agile environments using Scrum or Kanban, along with a passion for DevOps practices and automation, will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality, scalable microservices within our cloud-native architecture
  • Taking ownership of your domain, ensuring the stability and performance of your services while adhering to best practices for security and reliability
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product owners, QA, and infrastructure engineers, to contribute to the continuous improvement of our platform through code reviews, testing, and automation
  • Leading technical discussions and providing mentorship to junior team members
  • Shaping the technical direction of our systems, participating in architectural decisions, and implementing solutions that support high availability and scalability
  • Working closely with the infrastructure team to leverage automation tools like Terraform and Docker, ensuring seamless deployment and operations
