The Role
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team within Scotland's national paediatric renal service, you will provide advanced clinical care for children and young people with complex renal conditions. The role involves assessing, diagnosing and managing patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, developing and implementing treatment plans, prescribing where appropriate, and contributing to the ongoing development of the service. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider renal network, support clinical decision-making, and play a key role in maintaining high standards of patient-centred care. For trainee applicants, the role will include undertaking a structured programme of academic and clinical development to achieve Advanced Nurse Practitioner competencies.
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for either a qualified Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) or an aspiring Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join the highly specialised Paediatric Renal Service at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. This unique role offers the opportunity to work within Scotland's national paediatric renal service, providing expert care to children and young people with complex renal conditions, including chronic kidney disease, renal replacement therapies and renal transplantation. Qualified ANPs will undertake autonomous assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, prescribing and ongoing management of patients across inpatient and outpatient settings. Trainee ANPs will be supported through a structured development programme, enabling progression to full Advanced Nurse Practitioner competence in line with the NHS Scotland Advanced Practice Framework.

Key Responsibilities
Qualified ANP Applicants
- Current NMC registration as a Children's Nurse.
- Master's level qualification in Advanced Practice (or equivalent).
- Nurse Independent Prescriber qualification (V300).
- Demonstrable experience working autonomously in an advanced practice role.
- Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic and decision-making skills.
- Experience of leading and influencing clinical practice and service development.
Trainee ANP Applicants
- Current NMC registration as a Children's Nurse.
- Significant post-registration clinical experience at senior level.
- Evidence of postgraduate study and commitment to undertaking Master's level Advanced Practice education.
- Strong interest in developing advanced clinical skills within paediatric renal services.
- Demonstrable leadership potential and commitment to service improvement.
