Repairs and Maintenance Supervisor

The role

Based out of Hastings, this is an exciting opportunity for someone to lead our dedicated team of skilled Technicians across the county of Sussex, whilst also supporting our wider Directorate nationally, ensuring Southern Housing provides a comprehensive, high-quality, efficient and responsive home and communal repairs service.

Our primary focus is to provide a service for all our residents, internal colleagues, and external partners; managing repairs effectively from inception to completion with final quality assurance; whilst meeting all statutory and regulatory requirements. You will need to maintain and improve on a clear, safe, value for money structure, methodical approach, and supportive environment in which our technicians feel able to thrive.

Duties include:

• Day-to-day line management of a team of technicians, covering a multitude of trades and skill.
• Management of all associated workstreams, productivity, and value for money.
• Monitoring, Training, and Promotion of safe working practices.
• Mentoring, Training and Development of Colleagues.
• Fleet, Tool, Equipment, Facilities, and Materials management.
• Resident liaison, including stage 1 complaint handling.
• Updating a variety of mobile and desktop IT systems.

• The role works with a range of residents, colleagues, and partners, so a positive approach to collaborative one-team working and co-creation is essential, with Customer Satisfaction as a priority.
• As part of a tight-knit team, you will be required to work closely with others, supporting colleagues within Direct Services, other teams across the business, and our partners from external agencies.
• However, you will also need the ability to work alone, be self-motivated and able to solve technical challenges as they arise; with an ability to produce detailed specifications of work for contractors and our in-house repairs teams to follow.
• An excellent working knowledge and experience in the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act, CoSHH, and PUWER Regulations, plus any other relevant legislation and/or regulatory requirements. Evidence of successfully applying these in practice will form part of both the shortlisting and interview stages.
• Working safely is paramount and you will require a strong awareness of and be required to write, understand, and present both Risk and CoSHH Assessments.
• An excellent level of numeracy and literacy is key, along with the computer skills sufficient to learn and operate in-house systems and technology; with a good working knowledge of standard software packages such as Microsoft Office or similar and previous experience of web-based CRMs, Scheduling, and Reporting Platforms.
• Previous experience of working within a Social Housing or similar customer-focused environment would also be beneficial.
