Company Description
Discover Nature Award (DNA) is a free, youth-led program that supports young adults in finding their place in nature restoration and responding to the environmental emergency through knowledge, connection, community, and action. The organization centers belonging and lived experience alongside ecological understanding, aiming for leaders who reflect the diversity of the natural world rather than existing monocultures. DNA bridges urban greenspaces and wilder landscapes, offering a clear pathway into environmental action, volunteering, skills development, and green careers. Through a co-designed syllabus and peer community, participants gain confidence, agency, and long-term engagement with climate solutions and nature recovery. As DNA grows, it is shaping a blueprint for inclusive, youth-led environmental action across Scotland, ensuring every young adult can access the skills and support needed to contribute to nature recovery.

The Reporter role at Discover Nature Award is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Edinburgh Area. The Reporter will cover stories related to nature restoration, youth environmental action, and climate solutions, producing timely news pieces that reflect the voices and experiences of program participants and partner organizations. Day-to-day responsibilities include researching and reporting on relevant environmental topics, conducting interviews, writing news articles and features, and preparing content for multiple formats such as web, social media, and presentations. The Reporter will collaborate with the wider DNA team to identify story opportunities, maintain ethical and accurate reporting standards, and help amplify the impact of the youth-led movement. The role also involves attending events, workshops, and field activities to capture on-the-ground perspectives and highlight the diversity of the DNA community.

- Strong reporting skills, including research, interviewing, and fact-checking relevant to environmental and community-focused stories.
- Excellent writing and news writing abilities, with a clear, concise style suitable for digital and print audiences.
- Effective communication skills, including the capacity to engage with diverse communities and present complex information accessibly.
- Multimedia skills, such as working with photos, audio, or video to support storytelling across different platforms.
- Demonstrated interest in environmental issues, social justice, or community-led initiatives.
- Ability to work on-site in the Greater Edinburgh Area, manage deadlines, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
- Relevant education or experience in journalism, media, communications, or a related field is beneficial.
- Familiarity with digital publishing tools, social media platforms, and basic content management systems is an advantage.
