Working within Marketing Week

Marketing Week is one of the UK's leading brands for marketing professionals, providing trusted insight, analysis, and intelligence to help marketers make informed decisions. Through premium content, events, and digital engagement, Marketing Week supports the industry's ongoing development and champions excellence across the profession.

The Role

As a Reporter, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality journalism that supports Marketing Week's editorial strategy and business objectives. You will identify, investigate, and produce exclusive content that informs, educates, and engages our audience across multiple channels.

Working closely with the editorial team, you will build a strong network of industry contacts, stay ahead of emerging trends, and develop compelling stories that position Marketing Week as the leading source of insight for the marketing community.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, investigate, and produce high-quality editorial content, including but not limited to news, news analysis, features, profiles, data-led stories, as well as social and video content.
  • Generate exclusive story ideas that provide unique value to Marketing Week's audience and support subscription growth.
  • Monitor developments across the marketing industry and wider business landscape, identifying emerging trends and newsworthy stories.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of marketing professionals, industry leaders, and key stakeholders to support exclusive journalism.
  • Develop engaging content across digital platforms, including video and social media, to maximize audience reach and engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across editorial, commercial, and events teams to support wider business initiatives while maintaining editorial integrity.
  • Support the delivery of Marketing Week events, webinars, roundtables, and other audience engagement activities where required.
  • Represent Marketing Week externally by attending industry events, building professional networks, and enhancing the brand's reputation.
  • Use audience insights, data, and analytics to inform content planning and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all content is accurate, balanced, engaging, and delivered to agreed editorial standards and deadlines.

Key Relationships

Working collaboratively with the News Editor, Editor, Deputy Editor, editorial colleagues, commercial, and events teams, building strong relationships to support content development, audience engagement, and the successful delivery of Marketing Week's editorial and business objectives.

Skills / Experience / Knowledge / Minimum Criteria

Knowledge

  • Understanding of journalism principles, editorial standards, and media law.
  • Knowledge of the business landscape.
  • Awareness of digital publishing, audience engagement, and social media best practice.
  • Understanding of data-led storytelling and how analytics can enhance editorial decision-making.

Skills

  • Excellent news gathering, research, and investigative skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex topics clearly and accurately.
  • Strong interviewing skills and the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret data and translate insights into compelling editorial content.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Creative thinking and strong editorial judgment, with a proactive approach to identifying exclusive stories.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced editorial environment.

Experience

  • Background in journalism, reporting, or a related editorial role.
  • Proven ability to research, write, and publish high-quality editorial content across multiple formats.
  • Experience developing and maintaining professional networks and industry contacts.
  • Experience creating digital-first content, including social media and multimedia content.
  • Experience working to tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards.

You combine strong editorial judgment with excellent research and communication skills, enabling you to produce insightful, engaging, and accurate content across a range of formats. You are comfortable working at pace, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

A collaborative team player, you enjoy sharing ideas, supporting colleagues, and contributing to a positive editorial culture. You are motivated by producing journalism that informs, influences, and adds value to Marketing Week's audience.
