The Role
This exciting new role will see you working with our Scotland bureau and contributing to our award-winning social output. It will require you to create and present bespoke original content aimed at new and younger audiences on our owned and operated digital platforms, primarily the new ITV News App, as well as our social platforms and their millions of followers.
The right person for this role will be a hands-on, social-native journalist who is comfortable knowing how to break down complex stories to a wide mobile first, social audience interested in news about Scotland.
This role will involve everything from:
- Being able to tell these stories themselves in first-person video explainers
- Gathering and curating content to create engaging social videos that engage with the audiences we're trying to reach
- Supporting and working collaboratively alongside our existing ITV News Scotland bureau to help maximise coverage of the biggest stories in Scotland as well as our own exclusive journalism.
You'll be a multi-skilled producer and presenter, creating compelling and visually engaging video content on issues that matter to, and derive from, younger audiences, with an expectation of creating original takes and creative edits on those issues.

You'll be responsible for helping create impact with our own original social content, growing the brand and reputation of ITV News in this space.
The ideal candidates will be able to originate ideas and bring them alive with creative production and graphic treatments to produce videos about Scotland that grab and hold the attention of new audiences on their mobiles - and you'll have the experience and showreel to demonstrate this.
Key Responsibilities
- To create and present original content targeted at a young, social audience interested in news stories about Scotland that resonate to the widest audiences
- To pitch and deliver original story ideas and treatments which create impact both among the target audience as well as the wider public
- Expected to generate and deliver ideas strong enough deliver across existing all ITV News digital and streaming platforms, including the new ITV News App, TikTok, Instagram, ITV X, and YouTube
- Create original videos on topics and issues in Scotland of relevance, and which resonate, to younger audiences, demonstrating an understanding about the stories that matter
- Support the existing Scotland bureau to complement and optimise the on-agenda stories of the day, as well as our extensive exclusive and original journalism
- Use graphics to deliver visually engaging videos
- Write scripts for short and long form video of the highest quality, aimed at the audience but within the highest expectations and standards of the ITV News brand. Also, you’ll be required to provide written articles around your stories which should engage audiences on our own site as well as 3rd party platforms such as Apple News
- Pitch and deliver original and exclusive digital journalism and strands across multiple platforms
- Ability to deliver across a range of formats, from editing multiple videos a week, with the ability to produce complex video to tight deadlines, as well as longer form edits as and when required
- The ability to shoot material to the highest standard on mobile phone and DSLR
- Provide imaginative treatments for complex stories, presenting complex ideas simply and in an engaging way
- To clip, and curate the best of ITV News video, and other video content, as and when required.
- Create engaging content across multiple platforms, taking a story idea and be prepared to deliver it in horizontal and vertical video formats, as well as written pieces when required
- Work collaboratively with other areas of the ITV News operation as and when required
- Produce videos to the highest standards of quality, accuracy and trust, in line with audience expectations of ITV News and Ofcom regulations
- Make engaging thumbnails and descriptions for videos when uploaded to social channels
- Work in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety in the office and in the field
- Relish working with new mediums and formats, adapting content in response to new platforms, audience demands, and analytics
- Generating ideas and content from the office, as well as deploying to the field to gather the very best content for stories

Key Requirements
- Excellent understanding of the topics and issues of interest about Scotland to mobile-first and younger audiences
- An ability to communicate and connect with younger audiences, presenting and voicing
- Ability to tell stories across a multitude of platforms, comfortable in a studio and live environment
- A first-class video editor and storyteller who can produce compelling videos on a wide range of subjects to a young audience - both in 16x9 and vertical formats
- Experience of using motion graphics (Adobe After Effects) to deliver visually engaging videos and to enhancing storytelling on mobile devices
- Ability to storyboard and script videos in an authentic and engaging way to the target audience
- Ability to write to a high standard, both for story scripts as well as for articles on the website
- Ability to shoot material to the highest standard
- Highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail around often complex and controversial material
- A proven track record of delivering stories that strike at the heart of a youth audience
- Ability to innovate in digital video formats
- Ability to edit under time pressure and to a high standard
- An understanding of trends and topics that affect a diverse range of communities across Scotland
- A proven record as a team player, as well as someone who's able to work alone and self-motivate
- Expert understanding and knowledge of social media, working across a wide variety of platforms
- Experience of writing for and posting online content via a Content Management System (desired)
