Description

Are you a qualified journalist looking for your next opportunity in local news?

The Colchester Gazette is always keen to hear from talented reporters who are passionate about uncovering great stories, holding decision-makers to account and connecting with local communities. While we don't currently have a live vacancy, we're building a talent pool of journalists interested in future opportunities across our newsrooms.

As a Reporter, you'll produce engaging content for both print and digital audiences, covering Colchester and the surrounding towns and villages served by our weekly titles. No two days are the same. One moment you could be covering breaking news, the next interviewing local personalities, reporting from court or council meetings, or producing compelling feature content.

This role would suit an NCTJ-qualified journalist with a strong news sense, excellent writing skills and a passion for local journalism.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
