Actuary - Life and Health (L&H) Valuation Team
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced actuary to join our Life and Health (L&H) valuation team in London for our EMEA business. This role offers the opportunity to work on quarterly Valuation and Financial reporting, assumption reviews, and provide actionable insights across diverse markets. You will play a key role in delivering robust actuarial results, driving operational efficiency, and collaborating with global teams.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Swiss Re's Life and Health Valuation team in London, working at the heart of our EMEA business. You will play a pivotal role in quarterly valuation and financial reporting, assumption reviews, and delivering actionable insights across diverse and complex markets. From driving operational efficiency to collaborating with global teams, your work will directly influence the quality and integrity of our actuarial results.
Key Responsibilities
- Support quarterly valuation processes on specific lines of business. Ensure smooth cashflow processing, accurate reserve and income statement submissions under IFRS17 and Swiss statutory bases
- Provide clear analysis and commentary on reserves, P&L movements, and assumption changes
- Coordinate and manage technical manual overlays in the Reporting process along with the Finance and Operations teams
- Support Assumption Reviews on select products, Business plan, Expense & Lag factor reviews, data KPIs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and oversee workflow and mentor junior team members
About the Team
The EMEA Actuarial Valuation team spans multiple locations (Zurich, London, Bangalore) and is responsible for quarterly financial reporting, assumption setting, and portfolio management across markets. We work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure transparency, operational efficiency, and alignment with global standards.

About You
- Qualified or nearly qualified actuary with 5+ years of L&H valuation or pricing experience in reinsurance, insurance, or consulting
- Strong knowledge of IFRS17; Actuarial modelling, familiarity with EV, MCEV, or Solvency II is an advantage
- Proficient in MS Excel; experience with Power BI or database tools preferred
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Proven ability to influence across functions and deliver under tight timelines
- Teamwork - able to build working relationships across technical disciplines and work effectively across the L&H value chain (including non-actuaries)
Requirements
- IFRS17 expertise: Strong knowledge of IFRS17 and its application within Life & Health valuation or financial reporting
- Actuarial qualification and experience: Qualified or nearly qualified actuary with 5+ years of L&H valuation or pricing experience in reinsurance, insurance, or consulting
- MS Excel proficiency: Proficient in MS Excel for actuarial modelling, data analysis, and reporting workflows
Nice to Haves
- Experience with Power BI or database tools
- Familiarity with EV, MCEV, or Solvency II frameworks
- Ability to build working relationships across technical disciplines and work effectively across the L&H value chain (including non-actuaries)
- Proven ability to mentor junior team members and oversee workflow management
Compensation
For the United Kingdom, the base salary range for this position is between GBP 62,000 and GBP 94,000 for a full-time role. The specific salary offered considers:
- The requirements, scope, complexity, and responsibilities of the role
- The applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills, and experience
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Furthermore, you will enjoy a variety of global and location-specific benefits. Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
