SSRS Developer (Contract)

Cheshire based client - 2 days onsite / 3 days WFH
3 month contract initially + extensions

A leading technology-led organisation is seeking an experienced SSRS Developer to join on a contract/interim basis. This hybrid role combines business-as-usual reporting support with a strategic migration project, helping transition reporting solutions from Microsoft SQL Server to Amazon Redshift.

Working with business stakeholders and data engineering teams, you'll maintain and enhance existing SSRS reports, resolve reporting issues, and support the migration of reports and data sources while ensuring data accuracy and performance throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and enhance existing SSRS reports hosted on SQL Server.
  • Troubleshoot reporting defects, data discrepancies and performance issues.
  • Manage report deployment, scheduling and subscriptions within SSRS.
  • Support the migration of reports and data sources from SQL Server to Amazon Redshift.
  • Validate migrated reports to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and maintain change records.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to support reporting and migration activities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience developing and maintaining SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) solutions.
  • Advanced T-SQL skills, including query optimisation, stored procedures and views.
  • Experience gathering reporting requirements directly from business stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of report design, including parameters, subreports and subscriptions.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server reporting infrastructure, deployment and troubleshooting.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience migrating reporting solutions or data sources to Amazon Redshift.
  • Familiarity with the differences between T-SQL and Redshift SQL (PostgreSQL-based).
  • Experience working within regulated environments with an understanding of data governance and information security.
  • PowerShell scripting experience.
