OB Collective is a UK technology business working on independent verification and evidence for information moving between organisations and systems. We work primarily in regulated and public-sector environments, combining software engineering, systems assurance and operational evidence to help organisations understand the state of information before it is relied upon.
We’re looking for a Senior Systems & Requirements Engineer for a six-month software-intensive technical programme.
The role owns the translation between operational need, system behaviour and technical requirements. You will work across operational stakeholders, software engineering and test and evaluation to define what the system needs to establish, where the relevant system and information boundaries sit, and how those requirements are evidenced and tested.
This is broader than a traditional Business Analyst or requirements-management role. We need someone comfortable moving from an operational problem through system and data-flow analysis to formal, testable requirements and maintaining that traceability through to final evidence and findings.
The work starts from an existing software prototype and will cover system integration, testing, failure conditions, performance and resilience, and the evidence needed to support future operational use.
Roles are UK-based, outside IR35, and primarily remote with occasional travel for workshops and technical activity.

Responsibilities
- Define and maintain operational use cases and decision points.
- Map actors, systems, interfaces and data flows.
- Establish what assurance and controls already exist within the relevant operating environment.
- Identify where residual requirements or evidence gaps remain.
- Define system, information, trust and evidence boundaries.
- Develop and maintain functional, interface and assurance requirements.
- Ensure requirements are clearly sourced and justified rather than derived from what the current implementation happens to do.
- Maintain requirements configuration and change control.
- Maintain end-to-end traceability from operational need through requirement, test, evidence and final finding.
- Work with the Integration Engineer to define interface and information requirements.
- Work with the Test, Evaluation & Measurement Lead to ensure requirements can be tested objectively.
- Work with the Technical Authority to ensure requirements are technically implementable without prematurely prescribing the solution.
- Assess the impact of changes to interfaces, assumptions, rules or operating context.
- Support standards and regulatory requirement mapping.
- Define the minimum evidence and information needed at relevant system boundaries.
- Lead or substantially contribute to the programme’s system, data-flow and requirements documentation.
- Support the derivation of final technology-neutral requirements from the evidence produced by the programme.

Experience we need
- Strong systems engineering and requirements engineering background.
- Experience translating operational or user needs into formal technical requirements.
- Experience with complex software-intensive systems.
- Strong system, interface and data-flow analysis.
- Requirements traceability and configuration-management experience.
- Ability to distinguish operational needs, functional requirements, interface requirements and technical implementation choices.
- Experience working across engineering, test and stakeholder teams.
- Able to identify assumptions, gaps and dependencies in complex system behaviour.
- Strong analytical writing and documentation.
- Comfortable challenging requirements that are vague, untestable or solution-led.

- UAS/UTM or digital airspace
