About AI News Hub
AI News Hub (ainewshub.org) is a publication covering AI and technology. We want our stories backed by real data, not recycled headlines, and we're looking for a data analyst to power that.
The role
You'll work with our editorial team to find, analyze, map, and verify the data behind our content. That means tracking down primary sources, checking whether a claim actually holds up, and turning raw numbers into clear angles our writers can build stories around. We want depth and original thinking. Surface-level stats that every other outlet already has are not the goal.
What you'll do
- Find and source data on AI and tech: funding, model releases, benchmarks, adoption, regulation, market trends, and more
- Analyze datasets to surface trends, patterns, and story angles the team hasn't seen yet
- Map relationships and landscapes, such as companies, investors, models, and policies, into clear, usable formats
- Verify statistics, claims, and figures against primary sources before publication
- Flag misleading numbers, weak methodologies, and outdated data
- Deliver clean, well-documented data briefs and visuals for editors and writers
- Suggest original data-driven story ideas, not just support for existing ones

What we're looking for
- Strong research instincts and a habit of going to the original source
- Solid analytical skills (Excel or Google Sheets at minimum; Python, SQL, or similar is a plus)
- Ability to spot flawed data, bad sampling, and cherry-picked stats
- Comfort turning messy data into clear takeaways and simple visuals
- Curiosity about AI and tech, and the ability to keep up with fast-moving developments
- Clear written English, since you'll be briefing editors and writers
- Independent, organized, and reliable in a remote setup
Nice to have
- Experience in data journalism, research, market intelligence, or fact-checking
- Familiarity with tools like Tableau, Datawrapper, Flourish, or Looker Studio
- Experience with public datasets and sources (SEC filings, company reports, arXiv, GitHub, Hugging Face, Crunchbase, government and academic data)
- Basic scraping or automation skills

Contract details
- Remote, contract-based
- USD 1,200 per month
- Roughly 20 to 25 hours a week, flexible schedule, with weekly deliverables and a short check-in call
- Initial 3-month contract, with option to extend

Include a short work sample: pick any AI or tech topic and put together a piece of data-driven work on it. A brief report, a chart, an infographic, or a mix all work. Tell us why you think the topic matters and what the data shows. List your sources and how you checked them.
Please send it as a PDF (a Word doc or Google Doc link is fine too). One to two pages is plenty. We read every one of these.
