The Opportunity

Entropyst Ltd is growing its engineering team and is looking for a multidisciplinary R&D Engineer to join our R&D facility in Glasgow. We are developing and commercialising electrified reactor technologies for the conversion of gaseous feedstocks into high-value carbon materials and other products.

The successful candidate will work at the intersection of experimental engineering, product development and computational modelling, helping move technologies from laboratory validation towards pilot-scale deployment and commercial products. This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable building and testing hardware, interpreting experimental results, and developing engineering models to understand and optimise systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, commission and experimentally test laboratory and pilot-scale reactor systems.
  • Undertake experimental work involving thermal, chemical, mechanical, electrical and gas-handling systems.
  • Develop and optimise reactor components and supporting balance-of-plant.
  • Plan experiments and undertake data acquisition, analysis and interpretation.
  • Develop engineering and system-level models using Python, MATLAB or similar tools.
  • Undertake process modelling, mass and energy balances, techno-economic analysis and system optimisation.
  • Support life-cycle assessment (LCA) and environmental-performance modelling.
  • Develop or support multiphysics models, where relevant, including thermal, fluid-flow, reaction and electrical phenomena.
  • Translate research results into practical engineering designs, prototypes and commercial products.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, risk assessments and engineering deliverables.
  • Support technology demonstrations, customer projects and collaborative R&D programmes.
  • Contribute, where appropriate, to Entropyst's engineering and technical consultancy activities.

Essential Background

  • PhD, EngD or equivalent research/industrial experience in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Energy Engineering, Materials Engineering or a closely related discipline. Exceptional candidates without a doctorate may also be considered where they can demonstrate at least five years of substantial relevant industrial R&D and product-development experience.
  • Existing right to work in the UK for the duration of the role is essential. Entropyst is not currently able to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
  • Strong hands-on experimental engineering experience.
  • Experience taking technology beyond fundamental research towards product, prototype or process development.
  • Strong quantitative and theoretical engineering skills.
  • Experience with scientific or engineering programming and modelling, ideally using Python, MATLAB or equivalent.
  • Ability to independently design experiments, analyse data and solve multidisciplinary engineering problems.
  • Strong technical communication, documentation and collaborative working skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work primarily on-site at Entropyst's Glasgow R&D facility.
  • Multilingual, with professional working proficiency in English and at least one additional language.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
