Research & Insights Analyst

Location: South Devon | Hybrid (4 days in office)
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000

About the Company

We’re working with a growing South West business that is looking to add to its team as part of its next stage of development. This is an opportunity for someone who is naturally curious, commercially aware, and interested in the world of technology. You’ll be joining a small, ambitious team where you’ll have the opportunity to learn quickly, take ownership, and make a genuine contribution. The office is based in South Devon and is easily commutable from Newton Abbot, Totnes, and surrounding areas.

The role could suit someone from a research, analyst, journalism, consulting, or market intelligence background who enjoys understanding new subjects and engaging with a wide range of people.

The Role

This is not a traditional desk-based research role. You’ll research companies and emerging market categories, speak directly with businesses to understand their products, positioning, and challenges, and turn what you learn into clear, useful insight for the wider team.

Preparation is an important part of the role. You’ll need to understand who you’re speaking to, know the right questions to ask, and be confident enough to probe further when an answer doesn’t quite stack up. You’ll work across multiple topics at once, combining independent research with external conversations and collaboration across the wider business.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Researching companies, products, and developing market categories.
  • Carrying out detailed preparation ahead of external calls and meetings.
  • Speaking directly with businesses to understand their products, positioning, and place within the market.
  • Leading conversations and asking thoughtful, informed questions.
  • Producing clear, concise research briefs and recommendations.
  • Identifying trends, gaps, and useful market intelligence.
  • Sharing relevant insight with colleagues across the business.
  • Supporting outreach and developing relationships with external contacts.
  • Using AI and digital tools to make research faster and more effective without compromising on quality.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Essential Skills & Experience

You don’t need to come from a particular industry, and deep technical knowledge isn’t essential. We’re more interested in your ability to research, think critically, and hold an intelligent conversation. You could be a strong fit if you have:

  • Experience researching complex or unfamiliar subjects.
  • Experience interviewing, questioning, or engaging with external stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • The ability to turn large amounts of information into clear conclusions.
  • Confidence using digital and AI tools. A relevant Master’s degree or strong academic research background could also work well, particularly if you can demonstrate strong communication skills and commercial awareness.

Why You’ll Love This Role

You’ll be joining a small team where you’ll be trusted to think for yourself and given plenty of variety in your work. You’ll gain exposure to interesting businesses and evolving areas of technology, while developing a valuable combination of research, commercial, and stakeholder-facing experience. If you enjoy learning, asking intelligent questions, and want a role that combines research with real conversations, we’d love to hear from you.
