The HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Centre of Islamic Studies (CIS) at the University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research and Outreach Associate with a research specialism related to Muslims of the UK and Europe.
About the Position
- Type: Fixed-term, three-year position
- Start Date: September 2027
- Location: Centre of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies
Responsibilities
- Pursue a research project related to Muslims of the UK and Europe.
- Design and run outreach activities that extend beyond the academic community.
- Collaborate with Muslim organizations, public policy stakeholders, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and local schools.
- Apply for additional external funding for designed activities when possible.
- Contribute to teaching modern Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies within the Department of Middle Eastern Studies or elsewhere in the University.
Collaboration
- CIS is part of a network of HRH Alwaleed Bin Talal centres.
- Associates are encouraged to collaborate with colleagues at the Alwaleed Centre at the University of Edinburgh and other Alwaleed centres at Harvard, Georgetown, the American University of Beirut, and the American University of Cairo.

Requirements
- Demonstrable upward research trajectory.
- Ability to develop and carry out high academic standard research projects.
- Interest and understanding of the Centre's remit.
- Commitment to outreach beyond academia.
- Attendance at and participation in CIS weekly seminars and events during term-time, and annual conferences or symposia.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Native or near-native fluency in spoken and written English.
Qualifications
- Successful candidates will need to have been awarded their PhD by the date their employment commences.
- Primarily intended for early-career researchers.
- Applications are invited from researchers who have submitted their doctoral thesis for viva voce examination no more than four years prior to the application closing date.
- Career breaks due to maternity leave, family commitments, illness, or other exceptional circumstances may be considered.
