Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in Isotope Geochemistry

We are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position in isotope geochemistry to join an ERC Advanced Grant-funded study ('EarthMelt', PI Helen Williams) investigating the geochemical records of planetary accretion and differentiation as captured in the Archean rock record.

Location

The successful candidate will be based in Cambridge.

About the Role

You will join a supportive and expanding research community with expertise in isotope geochemistry, cosmochemistry, mantle petrology, and thermodynamic modelling. Research will involve analysing Archean magmatic rocks for their novel stable and radiogenic isotope compositions as part of the ERC EarthMelt project.

Requirements

  • Must have (or be about to obtain) a Ph.D. in isotope geochemistry or cosmochemistry.
  • Previous experience in isotope geochemistry, including novel stable isotopes as analysed by multi-collector plasma mass spectrometry and Archean mantle geochemistry is considered essential.
  • Experience in fieldwork and sample collection in Archean terranes would also be considered an advantage.
  • Good communication and numerical skills.
  • Scientific independence and initiative.
  • Depending on career stage, a track record of manuscripts published (or under review in) in peer-reviewed international journals.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
