Full-time Research Assistant Position
We seek an experienced, scientifically curious, and collaborative full-time Research Assistant to join the Crossley laboratory (https://www.cruk.cam.ac.uk/research-groups/crossley-group/) in the internationally renowned Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Cambridge, UK.
You will work alongside Dr Mawer, our Senior Scientific Associate, to bring several ongoing projects to publication, as well as helping to start new projects.
About the Research Group
In the Crossley research group, we study RNA-DNA hybrid molecules called R-loops - how they are dysregulated in human disease, drive genome instability and inflammation, and how these molecules and cellular responses to them can be harnessed for cancer detection and treatment. We use biochemical, imaging, and genomics approaches to study molecular mechanisms underlying R-loop biology and their clinical applications.

Key Responsibilities
- Molecular Biology Skills: Strong skills in cloning, western blotting, lentiviral infection, qPCR, nucleic acid isolation, immunoprecipitations, microscopy, and flow cytometry.
- Cell Culture: Previous experience of mammalian cell culture.
- Expertise Required: In-depth expertise in at least one of genome stability, RNA biology, chromatin biology, innate immunity, or cancer biology.
- Additional Skills: Experience in next generation sequencing and/or bioinformatics will be advantageous.
- Lab Duties: Preparation of reagents, maintenance of lab stocks, and assisting with the day-to-day running of the laboratory.
Position Details
- Funding: Recent long-term funding awarded.
- Duration: Fixed-term for 1 year in the first instance.
- Opportunities: This position is a staff vacancy at the University of Cambridge that would allow for the post holder to also undertake a postgraduate course at the University, should an offer of a place be made following the relevant competitive process.
