Job Opportunity
We are seeking a researcher with expertise in social science methods to work on a project evaluating the implementation and impacts of community-based environmental initiatives. You will work under the supervision of Dr Neil Simcock and Dr Kezia Barker as part of the Cool Wirral Thriving Communities project funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
Position Details
- Part time (0.6 FTE, 21 hours per week)
- Duration: 28 months
- Support: Opportunities for career development, contributing to and leading-author academic publications and other outputs.

- Objective: Support communities to act on climate change and involve more people in positive environmental action.

LJMU Role
- Evaluation: Ongoing assessment of implementation, outcomes, and wider impacts
- Academic Understanding: Enhance understanding of climate action capacity and outcomes in marginalized communities
- Future Policy and Practice: Generate new evidence to inform policy and practice
Duties
- Conducting questionnaires and analyzing data to understand wellbeing, social connection, pro-environmental attitudes, and behavioral change
- Gathering and analyzing qualitative data using various techniques
- Attending community events to undertake participant observations
- Contributing to project reporting, data management, formulation and submission of academic papers and other outputs (e.g., conference presentations), and impact activities
Requirements
- Education: Relevant degree (up to at least undergraduate level) in a relevant social science discipline
- Experience:
- Competency in quantitative social research and statistical analysis
- Knowledge of qualitative data collection and analysis
- Experience in a research-oriented environment
- Skills:
- Strong communication (oral and written) and organizational skills
- Interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team
