Role Overview
We are looking for a Research Assistant to join our Immunogenetics team.
Job Details
- Title: Research Assistant
- Salary: £36,983 per annum
- Contract: Permanent
- Hours: 35 per week (standard Anthony Nolan working hours)
- Location: Full-time on-site, Anthony Nolan Research Institute, London

Responsibilities
Working as a member of our Immunogenetics team, you will assist with the daily management and coordination of our long-running Patient/Donor Programme, studying Haematopoietic Cell Transplant (HCT) recipients and their donors. As part of the role, you will be responsible for:
- The daily collection of samples
- Sterile separation of lymphocytes and storage of patient and donor material
- Entering and maintaining relevant clinical data on our in-house databases, ensuring ethical and laboratory guidelines are followed at all times
- Working closely with the team to design, build and implement solutions within our Patient/Donor Programme, with the aim to innovate processes and streamline day-to-day running of the project
- Involvement in the development of molecular assays, utilising a range of molecular biology techniques including the third-generation sequencing method Single Molecule Real-Time (SMRT) sequencing, to characterise HCT study cohorts
Requirements
Successful candidates will have:
- A first class or 2:1 degree in a Biological Science (BSc) or equivalent
- Good organisational skills
- The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines, whilst maintaining meticulous attention to detail
- A positive attitude to problem-solving
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Taking the initiative to work independently when necessary
- Previous experience in a molecular biology laboratory with experience of techniques, such as DNA extraction, is advantageous
- Knowledge of HLA or other immunogenetic gene systems
