About the Role
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality research in automated vehicle navigation and perception systems. As a key aspect of this role, you will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in developing and maintaining software solutions for our existing automated driving platform CONRRAD, developed as part of the previous UKRI project Driven by Sound.
You will contribute to the development of tools for debugging, testing and validation of automated driving functions, as well as visualisation of multi-sensor data. You will also support the optimisation of full-stack automated driving pipelines and contribute to the design and evaluation of novel perception algorithms for automated driving. You could also develop your own research portfolio by supervising MSc individual research projects aligned with the Centre’s research themes. You will be expected to contribute to project delivery, research dissemination through publications and technical reports, and support collaborative activities with academic and industrial partners.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You

You will have knowledge of software testing, debugging, optimisation and deployment practices, with experience in communication middleware and protocols used in robotics or autonomous systems. You will have excellent problem-solving and self-management skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary research teams.
