Postdoctoral Research Associate in Cardiovascular Biology
This is an outstanding opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Associate with a background in cardiovascular biology, cell biology, molecular biology, mitochondrial biology, or a related discipline to work within the Kitmitto Research Group under the supervision of Professor Ashraf Kitmitto. The post holder will be part of a multidisciplinary research team based within the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences at The University of Manchester.
About the Role
The successful candidate will support the aims of a British Heart Foundation-funded research project grant to advance our work showing that mitochondrial quality control pathways are impaired during the early stages of type 2 diabetes. This innovative project will define the molecular mechanisms leading to defects in mitochondrial structure-function and the development of diabetic heart failure, evaluate novel therapeutic strategies, and investigate potential biomarkers and molecular signatures for patient stratification.
This position offers an ideal opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist to work within a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, also working with Professors Elizabeth Carwright and Delvac Oceandy. The ideal candidate will have excellent experimental, organizational, and communication skills and will be capable of working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Experience of cardiomyocyte biology, in-vivo small animal model work and/or mammalian cell culture, molecular and cell biology, and mechanistic investigation of signalling pathways using genetic and/or pharmacological approaches is essential. Experience in the analysis of mitochondrial function, advanced imaging, and therapeutic intervention studies would be advantageous.
