Part Time (18.5hrs per week) - Fixed Term Contract (3 months) - Location High Wycombe or Chesham

Salary - £33,951 - £37,694

We’re not trying to fit in with the higher education status quo. We’re challenging it. We’re doing things differently - because our students, our staff, and our world need us to.

So this is an exciting moment to join us. We’re boldly reimagining what a university can be: a place rooted in social mobility, a community where difference is celebrated, and an institution that empowers people to become more than they thought possible.

We are seeking two part-time Research Associates to deliver an innovative collaborative project between Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) and local manufacturing company, Sundance Multiprocessor Technology Ltd. Working as a team, one Associate will be based at SunDance's premises in Chesham and the other at BNU High Wycombe, providing a unique opportunity to apply research in a commercial environment.

Through this Accelerated Knowledge Transfer (AKT) project, funded in part by Innovate UK, you will work with Sundance and BNU’s College of Creative, Arts, Technology and Engineering to investigate the adoption of additive manufacturing technologies. You will conduct research, analyse findings and develop recommendations to help Sundance integrate 3D printing into its manufacturing processes and maximise return on investment.

The project will establish the foundations of a long-term collaboration between BNU and Sundance, creating a detailed understanding of how emerging additive manufacturing technologies can support future business growth and innovation.

You will also contribute to an inclusive and supportive university community.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
