Position Details
Department: Department of Applied Health Sciences, School of Health Sciences, College of Medicine and Health
Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK
Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £33,002 to £35,608 with potential progression once in post to £39,906
Grade: 6
Hours: Part Time (9.375 hours per week)
Contract: Fixed Term contract up to August 2027
Closing date: 10th September 2026
Background
To provide statistical support to several applied health and methodological research projects. The work will involve supporting delivery of pre-specified analyses, consolidating and summarising analysis material, and contributing to the writing and delivery of research outputs. The projects include analysis of a pilot cluster trials, support delivery of a statistical analysis plan for a large cluster randomised trial, analysis of correlated data with mixed models, and supporting delivery of spatial evaluation analyses and models and protocol development.
Role Summary
Support delivery of statistical analyses and outputs across several projects and research grants.
- Operate within the area of biostatistical analysis, including use of generalised mixed models and spatial analyses.
- Contribute to publications.
Main Duties
- Analyse research data as directed. Knowledge of generalised linear mixed models and spatial models is advantageous
- Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters
- Develop and consolidate results from different techniques, models and methods
- Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with research
- Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
- Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research
- Fosters a fair and equitable workplace for all staff
- Identify and respond to equality and diversity issues in line with relevant university policies and procedures

Person Specification
- Degree or equivalent in statistics, mathematics, or associated area
- Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques, including spatial analyses and generalised linear mixed models
- Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively
- Ability to access and organise resources successfully
- Knowledge of the protected characteristics and duties under the Equality Act 2010. Including fostering good relations and advancing the universities Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED)
