Research and Development Associate (Glasshouse based)
Location: Bracknell
Employment Type: Initially a one-year contract
Our client, a leading organisation in the horticultural sector, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Research and Development Associate to join their dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to contribute to innovative plant and seed production techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day production and maintenance of plant and seed materials, ensuring they meet customer standards and promptly addressing any issues that arise.
- Conduct experimental work both independently and collaboratively, utilising established and novel screening methods.
- Maintain plants under glasshouse conditions for the duration of testing, ensuring optimal growth and health.
- Collaborate with the Technical Support Team to uphold high levels of customer support and satisfaction.
- Develop your technical knowledge and skills by engaging with a variety of production techniques.
- Identify areas for efficiency improvements and actively participate in problem-solving discussions with team members and supervisors.
- Keep records and databases updated with precision and accuracy.
- Embrace a continuous improvement mindset, contributing to the enhancement of screening methods and processes.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to all safety procedures and HSE regulations.
- Ensure compliance with DEFRA, CBD, QMS, and HSE regulations regarding genetically modified organisms and licenced plant materials.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic with a focus on consistency and accountability in all tasks.
- Potential involvement in test planning as required.

Skills and Qualifications:
- General knowledge of plant biology; familiarity with seed production and horticultural techniques is highly desirable.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programmes.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent communication abilities.
- Quick learner with a proactive attitude, both as a self-starter and a team player.
- Exceptional self-management and time management capabilities.
- HND level in Horticulture or a minimum of 2 years' experience in Horticulture or Seed Supply is preferred.
