The School of Computer Science and Mathematics is dedicated to producing research that has real-world application, boasting specialisms in immersive technologies, applications of artificial intelligence, trustworthy computing technologies and data science.
Research Associate in Artificial Intelligence
We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate in Artificial Intelligence to join the Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies Research Institute (AIDTRI).
About AIDTRI
AIDTRI brings together multidisciplinary expertise in AI and advanced digital technologies, with research spanning fundamental methodological development through to real-world application and evaluation. Key areas include AI, data science, trustworthy and explainable AI, causal AI, digital twins, immersive technologies, data visualisation and advanced computational modelling.

Key Activities
- Conducting high-quality research in AI and Data Science;
- Organising, harmonising and analysing large, multimodal and multi-source datasets;
- Developing and evaluating AI methods;
- Collaborating with internal and external research partners;
- Preparing research papers and conference contributions;
- Contributing to external research funding applications; and
- Supporting research management and activities within AIDTRI.
Essential Criteria
- Hold a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline, or have submitted your thesis and be awaiting viva.
- Experience of conducting and publishing high-quality AI research.
- Strong knowledge of AI algorithms.
- Programming experience in Python, R or similar.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience with large and complex AI problems.
- Novel AI or computational methods.
- Advanced Python programming.
- Research funding proposals.

We anticipate holding interviews no later than the first week of October 2026.
