We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our research team in the School of Engineering at Lancaster University on an exciting project to develop a point-of-care biosensor for C-peptide assessment.
The project is funded by Breakthrough T1D (USA) via a Strategic Research Agreement grant, awarded to Dr Samet Şahin in the School of Engineering at Lancaster University. This is a full-time post commencing as soon as possible and is funded until the 1st of December 2027. The interviews for this post will be held online.
The project aims to develop a blood test for C-peptide that can be performed at the time and place of patient care for the assessment of the pre-symptomatic period of type 1 diabetes. This will provide an easy and reliable C-peptide assessment with a significant reduction in time compared to conventional standards in clinical practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
