Role Description
The Research Data Scientist role at HEXit is a full-time hybrid position based in Halifax, with flexibility for partial work from home. In this role, the Research Data Scientist will:
- Design and execute data-driven research projects
- Apply statistical and machine learning methods to derive insights
- Guide product development and business decisions

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Collecting and cleaning data from multiple sources
- Performing exploratory and inferential analyses
- Developing predictive models to support HEXit’s software and hardware solutions
The Research Data Scientist will collaborate with engineering, product, and QA teams to:
- Translate complex findings into clear visualizations, reports, and recommendations
- Improve security, performance, and user experience across applications
This role also involves:
- Staying current with emerging data science techniques and tools
- Contributing to the continuous enhancement of HEXit’s analytics capabilities
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Data Science and Statistics, with the ability to design experiments, build models, and interpret results.
- Proficiency in Data Analytics and Data Analysis, including cleaning, transforming, and exploring large and complex datasets.
- Experience with Data Visualization, using tools or libraries to create clear, actionable dashboards and visual reports.
- Hands-on experience with programming languages commonly used in data science (such as Python or R) and SQL.
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and libraries, and practical experience deploying or evaluating models in production environments.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Ability to communicate complex analytical findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, both in writing and verbally.
- Comfort working in a hybrid environment in Halifax, with strong collaboration skills and the ability to work independently when remote.
- Experience in IT, software development, or product-focused environments is an asset.
