The Research Office welcomes applications for Research Development Advisors to join the Cambridge Research Office.

As part of established teams, the post-holders will provide proactive research support to drive high-quality funding applications. Working closely with research-focused colleagues across the respective Schools, you will support researchers and their Departments in the preparation, costing, and review of research bids, with a significant aspect of the role focused on costing and compliance. You will provide advice and guidance on various operational aspects of grant applications, including eligibility of the applicant(s), adherence to the rules of the funding call, and accurate costing. You will note any discrepancies between the application and costing, and work with Departmental staff and Principal Investigators to resolve these before the funder deadline. You will identify and help mitigate risk, help ensure compliance with University and funder policies, submit research grants to funders, and liaise with external parties as appropriate.

Key skills and attributes required for this role include strong numerical and communication skills, as well as attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills, along with the abilities to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels and to build networks and effective working relationships, are essential for the role. To thrive in this fast-paced and deadline-driven operational role, you will need to be able to work independently, with the ability to prioritize workloads as well as managing tight deadlines.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
