Applications are invited for this part-time post to support the work of the Wales Kidney Research Unit. This all-Wales post is hosted by the School of Health Sciences.
Duties will include developing research capacity and capability of those wanting to develop skills and opportunities across health services research generally, including trials in Wales, UK and Europe. The postholder will be a member of the Executive team of the Wales Kidney Research Unit.
The post holder will act as a strategic expert to provide advice and support on the development of opportunities to attract research funding and on co-ordinating and supervising project teams.
The post holder will have a PhD (or be near completion) or equivalent relevant to the role.
The role includes responsibilities for seeking their own research funding and planning / conducting / analysing and publishing research across kidney related health services research, mentoring junior researchers, PhD supervision and liaising with external and internal partners in academic, industry and third sector.
The successful candidate will be expected to commence 1st September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter and the post is available until 30th September 2028.
The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.
This post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.
This all-Wales role is mainly delivered virtually with face to face meetings with key partners and WKRU personnel as required.

The School of Health Sciences is an interprofessional school which sits within the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and provides medical, health and care education and research at Bangor University. The School works in partnership with health, social and educational care providers through well-established links to enable a clinical and academic experience to be provided for children’s nursing students. The School offers a career-spanning portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and short courses for health and care and allied professionals. The School comprises over 120 staff, delivering to students from across allied health programmes. Purpose of the Job
The postholder is a member of the Executive team of the Wales Kidney Research Unit (WRKU). This strategic role involves developing research capacity and capability of those wanting to develop skills and opportunities across health services research generally, including trials in Wales, UK and Europe.
The WRKU is a collaboration between Cardiff, Swansea and Bangor Universities.
The post holder will act as a strategic expert to provide advice and support on the development of opportunities to attract research funding and on co-ordinating and supervising project teams.
The role includes responsibilities for seeking their own research funding and planning / conducting / analysing and publishing research across kidney related health services research, mentoring junior researchers, PhD supervision and liaising with external and internal partners in academic, industry and third sector.
The role is hosted by Bangor University and the all-Wales role is delivered virtually with some face to face meetings.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing strategic policy and advising the Executive on meeting key performance indicators.
- Providing strategic expertise and leadership to academics and researchers associated with the Wales Kidney Research Unit.
- Developing capacity and capability in health services research and social care in kidney disease in Wales.
- Developing new research grants in key strategic areas.
- Leading on the organisation and supervision of project teams.
- Leading on gathering and analysis of data including qualitative and quantitative sources of evidence and validation.
- Contributing to administration of research studies including governance, management and planning, finances and budgets and costings.
- Delivering research outcomes including contributing to the dissemination of research outputs through relevant scientific, technical, industrial, and public press and conferences, collaborate with co-researchers and write up the results in scientific articles, write final reports and discussing and sharing results with grant holders.
- Supervision of PhD students and mentoring of research officers and research support workers.
- Advising and supporting outreach and dissemination activities related to WKRU core research activity.

- The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.
