Opportunity Overview
The Impact Research Fellow in Nature & Wellbeing will play a key role in delivering an ambitious programme of research, evaluation and knowledge exchange focused on nature-based health interventions and green social prescribing. Working across the University of Salford, Bupa and a range of regional, national and international partners, the postholder will utilise the Thrive Health and Wellbeing Centre rooftop garden and related community initiatives as living laboratories to generate robust evidence of health, wellbeing and environmental impacts. The successful candidate will design and conduct high-quality qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods research, evaluate outcomes, enable new programmes on the rooftop, produce high-quality publications and reports, and contribute to the development of innovative approaches that improve health equity and wellbeing through engagement with nature.
The postholder will be an effective collaborator with experience of working across multidisciplinary teams and engaging diverse stakeholders from academic, policy and practitioner communities. They will support partnership development, knowledge exchange activities, training and professional development programmes, major events and conferences, and the expansion of initiatives such as the Green Care Quality Mark (operationalised by Social Farms & Gardens). With excellent communication, organisational and project management skills, the successful candidate will be capable of translating research into meaningful real-world impact, contributing to future funding opportunities, and supporting the University's commitment to improving communities through research, innovation and collaboration. Core to this role will be impact: from the Thrive rooftop garden, to the University’s public realm and the wider Salford / Greater Manchester areas; scaling-up innovative nature-based interventions and supporting a range of organisations.

Full-time, fixed-term appointment for 2 years. Candidates are expected to start the role by October or November at the latest. This is a hybrid role, but substantial in-person work in Salford and Greater Manchester is a core requirement.
About the role and The University of Salford
The University of Salford is committed to transforming lives through research, innovation and partnership working. This exciting interdisciplinary fellowship is based within the Faculty of Health, Community & Life Sciences within the cross-faculty Environmental Research & Innovation Centre (ERIC) and is supported through a major partnership with BUPA which focuses on nature-based health interventions and social prescribing. The postholder will utilise the Thrive Health and Wellbeing Centre rooftop garden as a living laboratory to generate evidence, innovation and measurable impact, alongside wider impacts in Salford, Greater Manchester and beyond.
The Fellowship will support implementation of nature-based interventions, strengthen university-industry collaboration, contribute to environmental and health improvements, and embed learning from major national and international projects, including the Horizon Europe / UKRI-funded GreenME. The role will work across research, implementation, stakeholder engagement, evaluation and knowledge exchange activities throughout Salford, Greater Manchester and on a broader scale.
