Job Title: Research Fellow

About the Role

The School of Biological Sciences and Institute for Global Food Security at Queen's University Belfast seek to appoint an exceptional Research Fellow to join the AMR and One Health Lab and Huws Group. The appointee will contribute to interdisciplinary research spanning microbiology, antimicrobial chemotherapy, translational veterinary therapeutics, animal science and bioinformatics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team delivering PUREMILK, a BBSRC Follow-on Fund project focused on combating antimicrobial resistance in bovine mastitis through alternative, non-antibiotic strategies.
  • Evaluate the efficacy of novel antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) for treating bovine mastitis and investigate their modes of action in chronic mastitis studies involving dairy cattle.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of research activities across the project.
  • Contribute to key commercial milestones by raising the profile of the research through engagement with farmers, scientists, and other stakeholders.
  • Support freedom-to-operate assessments, prepare data for patent applications and submissions to the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, and assist initial discussions with companies regarding potential licensing opportunities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
