University of Bradford
At the University of Bradford, our focus is on creating the conditions for social, cultural, and economic impact. We are committed to social inclusion. Our work to expand opportunity and enable students to reach their potential, has led to us topping the Social Mobility Index of English universities for the last five years.
Directorate
Thanks to Expanding Excellence in England funding, the University of Bradford’s Centre for Digital Innovations in Health & Social Care is embarking on an exciting programme of rapid growth. We are seeking a collaborative and motivated researcher to contribute to the growth and development of the Centre.
Our Centre is multidisciplinary, undertaking high quality co-created applied research that (i) informs the design and implementation of new technologies in national and international health and care systems; and (ii) explores the impact of such technologies on patients, service users, carers, and health and social care professionals. Employing theory-driven approaches for design and evaluation, the Centre’s research offers an understanding of the contextual factors that impact the success of an innovation, informing both future technology design and its implementation. Research in the Centre is mixed method, combining qualitative data that delivers deep insight with the quantitative data that caters to the needs of policymakers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You Will Be Doing
This is a 3-year fixed-term position.
- Work on a programme of research using linked health and care data from the Connected West Yorkshire, including the development, validation, and evaluation of clinical decision support tools, including the external validation of the Computer-Aided Risk Score System (CARSS), and methodological work examining fairness and intersectionality in risk prediction models.
- These activities will contribute to strengthening evidence on the safe, effective, and equitable use of predictive analytics in real-world clinical settings. The work clearly aligns with the Centre’s “Doculess” theme, particularly in relation to the design and evaluation of digital tools that reduce documentation burden and support more efficient clinical decision-making.
- Following this initial programme of work, you will contribute to the Centre’s wider flagship research activities, including: (1) design and evaluation of technologies to improve decision-making and reduce documentation burden; and (2) design and evaluation of technologies aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the health and social care system.
Qualifications/ Experience
- PhD in a subject relating to health data science or biostatistics or demonstrate equivalent research experience.
- Experience of strong linked data analysis in a healthcare setting.
