The Opportunity
A VC-backed life sciences company is developing advanced biological products and expanding its internal research capabilities.
The company is looking for a hands-on Research Operations Manager to establish reliable laboratory processes, manage infrastructure and suppliers, and coordinate work delivered by external research partners. The role will combine laboratory operations, procurement, compliance, project coordination, and vendor management.
This is an opportunity to become a core operational partner to the scientific team and help build the systems required to support multiple research programmes as the company grows.
What You Will Own
- Support the planning, setup, and ongoing operation of laboratory facilities.
- Coordinate equipment procurement, installation, maintenance, calibration, and servicing.
- Manage laboratory supplies, reagents, consumables, inventory, and logistics.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, records, and operational documentation.
- Establish practical processes for laboratory safety, compliance, and day-to-day operations.
- Manage suppliers, service providers, procurement processes, budgets, and shipping logistics.
- Coordinate external research partners across a range of laboratory and preclinical activities.
- Track study plans, milestones, deliverables, timelines, and dependencies.
- Ensure external work is conducted in line with agreed protocols, quality expectations, and data standards.
- Coordinate sample movement, data exchange, reporting, and issue resolution between external partners and internal scientific teams.
- Support the assessment, selection, onboarding, and management of new technical vendors.
- Monitor project costs and flag delays, risks, or budget variances.
- Build clear reporting systems that give the scientific leadership team visibility into operational progress.

Required Experience
- M.S. or Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, biotechnology, or a related discipline.
- 3–5+ years of experience in laboratory, research, or scientific operations.
- Experience managing or establishing laboratory infrastructure and processes.
- Working knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology, or related experimental workflows.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment, inventory systems, procurement, and compliance documentation.
- Experience coordinating external research organisations, technical vendors, or contract research partners.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Experience with budgeting, supplier management, purchasing, and vendor negotiation.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.

Preferred Experience
- Experience in an early-stage life sciences or biotechnology company.
- Experience managing outsourced research or preclinical development activities.
- Familiarity with laboratory quality systems, study monitoring, or data integrity practices.
- Exposure to advanced therapeutic, molecular engineering, or translational research programmes.
- Experience working with partners across different countries or time zones.
- Experience creating operational systems in an environment with limited existing infrastructure.
